I would like you to be there

When I die —-not that  you’d care

Nor that I’ d want you to hold my hard exactly

(Though that couldn’t be bad)

But just that I shouldn’t feel so intolerably sad

At the going out of the day;

Just that one’s Muse must be constant, and one’s purpose—-

Mi piacerebbe che tu fossi qui

Quando morirò —- non che ti dovrebbe

Importare

E neppure vorrei che mi tenessi stretta la mano.

(Anche se non sarebbe poi così male)

Ma solo non vorrei al finire del giorno sentirmi

Così intollerabilmente triste;

Solo che alla propria Musa devi essere fedele, e al proprio scopo.——
