Frühmorgens lese ich in der Zeitung von epochalen
Plänen
Des Papstes und der Könige, der Bankiers und der
Ölbarone.
Mit dem anderen Auge bewach ich
Den Topf mit dem Theewasser
Wie es sich trübt und zu brodeln beginnt und sich
wieder klärt
Und den Topf überflutend das Feuer erstickt
Leggere il giornale preparandosi il tè
Di prima mattina leggo sul giornale dei progetti sensazionali
dei papi e dei re, dei banchieri e dei baroni del petrolio.
Con la coda dell' occhio sorveglio
il bricco dove l'acqua del tè
s' intorbida e comincia a bollire ed è chiara di nuovo
e traboccando dal bricco soffoca il fuoco.

Reading the newspaper and making the tea
Early in the morning on newspaper I read about stunning plans
of popes and kings, bankers and petroleum tycoons.
By the corner of the eye I watch
the pot where the tea water
becames cloudy and begins to boil and it's clear again
and boiling over from the pot puts out the flame.
